Bruno Mars to Filipinos: “Everybody put their phones down and dance”

The ever-talented Bruno Mars spiced up the night as he performed in the Mall of Asia Arena last May 3. It was the first leg of his two-night show in Manila. He sang and grooved to his hits like, “24K Magic”, “Treasure”, and “That’s What I Like.”

But the audience seemed to be more interested in capturing the moment rather than living in it, as a sea of phones filled the Arena.

Bruno couldn’t help but notice it and said, “I’ve never seen so many camera phones raised up in my whole life.”

He then hinted at them to put their phones down. “This makes me a little scary, you know. Because that means you can’t dance if you’re trying to get a shot.”

“Maybe just this night one, everybody put their phones down and dance,” he asked.

But the crowd did not seem to care as they continued raising their phones up instead of their arms. Some even stayed glued to their chairs despite the electric energy Bruno Mars and his gang gave.

“It’s crazy coming out here and we see people sitting down. Nobody jumping and nobody dancing,” Bruno teasingly said.

After the concert, Bruno performed at the after party held at the City of Dreams. There, he once again asked the audience to put down their phones down.

“I’m gonna be honest with you guys. We’ve never been to a place and see this many people not dancing. Manila, can we change that right now?”

It is undeniable that almost everyone in this age is obsessed over taking pictures and videos. But maybe, in our desire to capture the fleeting moment, we miss to enjoy the actual thing.
