Facebook user shares experience on how most “bus modus operandi” works

Despite the Philippine National Police‘s best efforts to combat criminality, there are still many lawbreakers waiting around places like public transport. A netizen on Facebook with the name Jep Maranang, shared a series of tips and observations he has learned over the years to prevent being mugged by devious thieves and their “bus modus operandi.”

He said that the gang of thieves would come in a group of around 5-10 people. These “passengers” would then strategically corner the victim by making them sit beside the window, while the seats in front and at the back of them are also occupied by the thieves’ other accomplices. They would then start chatting with the victims, making it known to other passengers that nothing unusual is going on.

He also said that most thieves would try to distract and annoy their victims by constantly fixing the air conditioner, or by mimicking their actions. These people would then try to know where the victim’s destination would be. He warned social media users not to let anyone suspicious know their last stop, and only go to crowded places for their safety.

He also advised commuters to immediately get up on their seats once they notice something skeptical going on. He said that it is most ideal to stay near the bus driver or conductor and get their attention.

Because of the usefulness of his post, it now has more than 18,000 shares and 17,000 reactions as of writing.

Netizens also shared their bus modus operandi experience – saying that the same thing has happened to them before.
