Recently, Gary Valenciano had to undergo an open heart surgery after experiencing chest pains during a dance number in his 35th anniversary concert.
After several weeks, his eldest son Paolo Valenciano finally gave some updates about the condition of his father in an interview with the Philippines’ Ultimate Showbiz Hub. He happily stated they were all surprised with Mr. Pure Energy’s speedy recovery.
“My dad is doing fine now, he’s recovering. According to the doctor, sabi nila for someone his age na may diabetes, he’s really improved a lot. There’s a miracle raw talaga kasi hindi nila naisip na ganun kabilis ang recovery niya,
“Although, from time to time, he still feels ‘yung tightness sa chest niya and may severe pain pa rin, but thank God, today he’s able to walk na so nakalabas na siya ng ICU today,” Paolo said.
Paolo Valenciano admits that the news about his health conditon came to a shock for their family.
“You know kami rin nabigla. Two, three weeks ago, he’s completely fine.
“But the doctor could have seen the reason why, it’s because of the blockage and ‘yung sa ASAP as 35th anniversary niya, ‘yun doon niya naramdaman ‘yun na medyo may problema.”

They first believed that the condition was due to a complication’s from Gary’s diabetes but when they were told that an operation was necessary, they were quick to act.
“Medyo nalungkot kami, kasi when he went to the hospital, akala ng doctors hindi siya masyadong serious, akala lang nila na result lang ito ng medication on his diabetes, and akala namin check up, nagulat na lang kami na sinabi ng mom ko sa amin na ‘oh you’re dad needs a bypass operation tomorrow.’ Nagulat kami and ‘nung sinabi sa amin, hindi pa masyadong nagsink in sa amin,”

Despite the present situation, Paolo Valenciano remains thankful for both of his parents’ strength in this challenging times. He specifically admired his mother, Angeli Panganiban, for keeping her wits about during this challenging time.
“We’re very thankful that he (didn’t) have a heart attack. We’re very thankful that we caught it early and that’s what the doctors are telling us, buti na lang he felt a little tightness kung ‘di it would have been a different story.”
“My mom, she’s really the strong one in the family right now. She was there right before the procedure and since it was the first time in our family to have that serious problem, it was my mom who kept us all together – Gab, Kiana and I. It really strengthened this family.”

Furthermore, Paolo announces that his father wants to get out of the hospital soon.
“Yes, the energy is there na, parang atat na siya makalabas ng hospital. He has some difficulty in getting up and lying down but he’s recovering really well.”
In his Instagram account, Gary Valenciano personally thanked everyone who were with him and prayed for his recovery.
